“The old Welsh name of The Wilds originally meant ‘distant place of smiles’, which we love. Situated entirely on its own land on the western edge of the Black Mountains, the views westwards are spectacular over the Brecon Beacons and Pen-y- Fan is the highest point in South Wales.
The Wilds was a fully functioning farm until about 25 years ago. In the 1980s it was the family home of author Horatio Clare; His childhood memoir ‘Running for the Hills’ gives a vivid account of his time growing up here and gives a feel of what the farm used to be like. Since then it has had a succession of owners, many of whom still live in the area.

Thanks for a wonderful stay. The Wilds is a magical place and you have created such a warm and homely environment. We enjoyed relaxing at home, having a fire, and looking at your lovely collection of books. I’m now reading Running to the Hills by Horatio Clare, which we ordered when we got home! Our daughters loved the hot tub, so did we. It was actually quite difficult to leave the house, but we did. We enjoyed a beautiful Sunday at The Farmers Arms, where we were made very welcome and enjoyed walking up the hill to admire the wonderful views. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
It’s truly everything I wanted to celebrate my 50th birthday. A week of celebration with friends and family making full use of the hot tub, beautiful scenery and home walks. Again a wonderful welcome and most importantly the fixtures, fittings and furnishings make it a perfect week in this dream home!
We had an incredible week in The Wilds. The location and scenery are magical, our kids spent the whole week out exploring the amazing property, the swings and hot tub. There is no need to even leave this beautiful place as we passed through many hills and fields straight from the back door. The house is very well equipped, and we loved the pizza oven. We also enjoyed reading about the history of the house. Thanks for sharing your home, we love it.
We had an amazing week at The Wilds. A beautiful delightful homey home that has everything you could ask for and more. We climbed mountains, cooled off in hot tubs, played card games, completed puzzles, watched movies, relaxed in front of a roaring fire, read books, flew on garden swings until our feet touched the tallest trees. Didn’t touch the branches and ate like kings. , We would love to come back again.

We couldn’t fault any aspect of our weekend. The property was more than five star and the little touches were greatly appreciated. Thank you to the team that cares for Wilds. The barrier was a brilliant touch. We took our own supplies as that’s what we were used to but these little touches made us feel very welcome. Thank you
