Resep Kue Kering Angka Delapan – Anyway..in regards to exploring old school snacks..yesterday when I had time to rummage through old tabloid collections..and I found one old school snack that caught my eye to try…namely the pong doughnut..or pong as some say donut biscuit . This is a really old school snack..don’t know if they still have it now…they sell it. Out of curiosity..I also had time to browse..and it turns out that they still sell some online..but when it comes to reviewing the recipe, they don’t have any at all. Ok..so I’m the first to write a recipe and keep this ancient snack on the blog…lol. In vain I cheated from the old edition of the chef’s tabloid, as well as from the recipe… because I’ve never made it myself.

These pong donut biscuits…really similar to widaran…made from glutinous rice flour, baked until dry and crispy, then covered in fine sugar. The difference is with widaran…widaran uses a whole egg…like this pong donut cracker…only the egg white is used…so the result is lighter and crispier…it can be hollow inside. Maybe that’s why it’s called pong donut, friends… because the cake is shaped like a donut and hollow inside. Well.. I loved this cake when I was little..yes it is a child’s name..who doesn’t care about colorful and sweet tasting cakes. To find the recipe..so that you can make it yourself now.

Since I am an amateur when it comes to kitchen matters, I chose to make the cakes in a flat form so that they bake faster. Well, almond cookies are now one of Surabaya’s special souvenirs.

How magical! The cake is crispy even though it is made without an oven. However, in my personal estimation, the cooking process of this cake takes about an hour on very low heat. Longer than serving recommendation. If the dough is thicker, the cake will probably take longer to bake. Mba Tri himself is not from Central Java… but from Lampung… but his neighbors in Lampung also used to sell gebels, and Mba Tri often saw and helped make them. That makes sense too… a lot of Javanese live in Lampung too, right Mba Tri… lol… *made up*. Back to Geblek..I read online..Gombong and Wonosobo also have this dish..just the way of preparation is slightly different from what Mba Tri taught.but only from wet cassava starch..which is steamed and half cooked, then seasoned and kneaded..then shaped and baked. For the recipe from Mba Tri… use cassava sediment. but I can’t imagine it’s that hard to cook cassava into starch…if you only use wet starch…lol. I just went back and forth and didn’t finish..the result was just a little..so it’s really better..if you mix it with cassava pulp..hihi. And it’s softer too.. different from what I’ve eaten so far.. so chewy.. lol.. maybe it’s just starch.
