Ingredients and spices that need to be Take to make Mapo tofu:

  1. 1 block soft or medium soft tofu (cut up into cubes)
  2. 2 tbsp corn flour (optional)
  3. 200 g mince beef or pork or chicken
  4. 2 tsp soysauce
  5. 2 tsp grated ginger (or ginger powder)
  6. 1 tsp sugar
  7. 1 tsp sesame oil
  8. 1 spring onions (finely chopped)
  9. 1 clove garlic (finely chopped)
  10. 2 tbsp vegetable cooking oil
  11. Ground black pepper
  12. 1 tsp spicy Bean paste (optional)
  13. 2 tsp chilli oil (can check my recipe)

Steps to make to make Mapo tofu

  1. Coated your tofu lightly with corn flour then leave them aside. On medium heat non stick pan, add vegetable cooking oil in. Once your oil hot add tofu in and leave them cook for 5 min (donโ€™t try to turn at this point) once you see tofu crisp up at the bottom you can start to turn them over and this is help tofu not get stuck on the pan and come off easily.
  2. Cook for another 5-8 min on the other side and remove you tofu on a plate lay with kitchen towel.
  3. Same pan, add garlic, stir well then add mince beef, soysauce, grated ginger, spicy bean paste, sugar and chilli oil.
  4. Add tofu back in and add some sesame seeds, sprinkle on top with spring onions and stir well. Ps.this is chilli bean paste I use (photo attached)
  5. Serve with some cooked jasmine rice. Itโ€™s so delicious and comforting.
